Fair Hill International Job Opening

It is with great regret that we announce the retirement of our Executive Director, Charlie Colgan.  Charlie is retiring after ten years of distinguished service during which the organization has been stabilized and rejuvenated, with a seemingly ever growing list of events and a Title Sponsor, The Dutta Corporation, that has just signed up for another six years.  Charlie leaves us with the organization in excellent shape and we wish him well in his retirement.

We are, of course, now looking for a new Executive Director!

Are you looking for an inspiring job working with more than 500 volunteers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and up and down the Eastern Seaboard?

Are you the kind of person that people consider the "glue" that holds things together?

Are you organized, dependable, detail-oriented, a self-starter, able to raise funds, to attract and develop corporate sponsorships, and also to recruit, retain and motivate volunteers?

Would you enjoy working with a team of hard working volunteers who share a love of the outdoors with a desire to participate in one of the most prestigious Three-Day-Events in the United States?

If you are that type of person but you're not looking for a job position where you sit at a desk all day long, this may be the job for you.

The Fair Hill International Executive Director is one of a full-time staff of two who run a $800,000 enterprise largely through the work of an eager and committed volunteer workforce and through the generosity of our sponsors and friends.

Our Event Calendar goes from April to October, but the work goes on all year.  Our offices are on the edge of a 5,600 acre State Park in the extreme northeast corner of Maryland, within an hour’s drive of Philadelphia and Baltimore.  Our events are all held in the Park, which provides a superb setting in a natural landscape that is also used by hikers, bikers and naturalists.

Executive Director Charlie Colgan to Retire After Decade of Service

Fair Hill International Executive Director Charlie Colgan to Retire
After Decade of Service

Fair Hill International, home of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) CCI*** and CCI** Fall Eventing Championships, is regretfully announcing the retirement of Executive Director, Charlie Colgan, after ten years of distinguished service. Located in beautiful Fair Hill, Maryland, The Dutta Corp Fair Hill International is one of the most prestigious international three-day events in the world, and draws some of the world’s top Eventing horses and riders.

Since assuming his role with Fair Hill International in 2005, Colgan has presided over a decade of growth and change. When the Combined Driving Event was discontinued after the 2007 renewal, the Eventing activities were expanded in the ensuing years. To complement the traditional USEF CCI Three-Star Championship, the USEF CCI Two-Star Championship was added in 2008, followed shortly by the USEA Young Event Horse Championships. During that period, Colgan was also heavily involved in the negotiations that led to Fair Hill International becoming a part of the Professional Riders’ Association PRO Tour Series.

When the USEF’s Jim Wolf proposed The Dutta Corporation as Fair Hill’s new Title Sponsor in 2013, Colgan worked tirelessly to assure that Dutta, a leading international horse transportation company that is also the Official Shipper for the United States Eventing Team, received full recognition of its involvement. The Dutta Corporation recently renewed its partnership with Fair Hill International for the next six years.

“Charlie has done an amazing job with Fair Hill International and we are sad to see him go,” said Trish Gilbert, Co-President of Fair Hill International. “He met the daunting challenge of running an organization that relies on some 500 volunteers and, with his calm demeanor and quiet leadership, he molded that group into a happy, well-oiled machine.   He was the perfect person for the challenge and he leaves the organization in excellent shape. We wish him well in his well-deserved retirement.”

Fair Hill International will be seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director, and will be announcing the job requirements and details of the job search shortly.

Word on the street is that Charlie will spend much of his retirement with his kids and grandkids.  Have a wonderful retirement, Charlie.  We will miss you!
