Elk Creek CDE

I am, again, late on results here.  Our Elk Creek Combined Driving Event (CDE) was held on June 2 and 3.  The Elk Creek CDE was created as a “No Frills” event to make it  affordable and low key to encourage both new and more experienced competitors to participate in a first class combined driving event on one of the best competition sites on the East Coast.  Since 2005, this event has provided all that AND lots of FUN!

Drivers enjoyed a lovely weekend, weather-wise.  The dressage and cones portions of the event were held on Saturday, with the marathon phase on Sunday.  Drivers competed in Training, Preliminary, and Intermediate levels (much the same as in eventing, the combined driving folks have different levels of competition with Training being the "easiest" and Intermediate being more difficult.  The super-good drivers compete in Advanced, just like in eventing).  Drivers competed with single ponies, single horses, and single VSE's (Very Small Equines, aka miniature horses, aka, ridiculously cute), as well as with pairs of ponies, horses, and VSE's.  So if you came to volunteer (THANK YOU!!) you saw all types of horse and pony combinations in all levels of driving.

The Elk Creek website is HERE and includes links to lots of videos from the June competition - definitely worth checking out.  Results can be found HERE.

And here's a photo from the marathon phase, many thanks to Louisa Emerick for sharing:
